Travel by catamaran with the sunset, sparkling sea, and playful dolphins as your backdrop during each 30-minute Harkers Island ferry ride. The captain gives this historical water view tour with a complete circuit of Harkers Island and a pass by Shackleford Banks.

Learn about the legends and local lore, with fun facts and information about Shackleford Banks, Harkers Island, and the surrounding areas. Hear compelling accounts of the historic beginnings of “Diamond City,” a community of hundreds who lived on “The Banks,” enduring unruly weather and hardship only to be forced out by one final, vicious storm. Hear testimony from your narrators about the Banker horses, the Mail Boat Run, Shell Point, and Browns Island. While enjoying the sunset, listen to the captain tell stories about the Graveyard of the Atlantic, and the shipwrecks that lie beneath the water.

You’ll be dropped off at Cape Lookout to explore the barrier island before your return ferry. Take pictures of the lighthouse with the sun setting or collect seashells along the water. After an hour, you’ll re-board the boat back to Harkers Island. On the ride back, be sure to be on the lookout for dolphins, sea turtles, and local birds along the way.

Reservations are required. Although infants (ages 2 & under) are free, they must still be included in your reservation. Departure time is based on sunset.
